Government entities and buildings are the pillar of our country. Therefore, these buildings and structures require special attention to detail and an experienced architectural firm to implement their design. SGodley Architects has served as both PRIME contract holder and LEAD designer on numerous federal and state government contracts. We manage the project design, documentation acquisition, and construction.  While it can be challenging to meet stakeholder and public needs, our team utilizes repeatable processes to help us stay on track.

How We Approach to Government Projects

From bid proposal until final sign-off, our seasoned Architects, designers, engineers, and other vital team members work together to ensure the process goes smoothly. We use industry-leading design tools like Autodesk Revit to show clients exactly how everything will look at the end of the project. During a government architectural project, we collaborate with contractors so that we know where we are at all times concerning timelines and deliverables.

SGodley Architects has licenses to practice architecture in the following states:

  • District of Columbia
  • Maryland
  • Virginia
  • Ohio
  • Pennsylvania
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • North Carolina (pending)
  • West Virginia (pending)

Additionally, we have reciprocal licensure ability to practice in any of the 50 US states.

Government Contract Design and Construction Process

As a reputable architecture firm in Maryland, we adhere to process guidelines set by American Institute of Architects. The stages include:

  • Pre-design: During the pre-design stage of a government project, we consult with the client to understand their needs. We also inspect the project site to get a clearer definition on project scope and prepare for potential issues that may come up during the project.
  •
  • Schematic design: SGodley Architects begins to brainstorm design concepts. Relying on previous projects and client input, we start creating preliminary floor plans and exterior layouts.

  • Design development: At this point, our team starts to narrow down important project elements, crafts schematics, and outlines project specs to show potential contractors who will bid on the job. The more details that get defined during this stage, the smoother the project will run. In some cases, SGodley Architects may involve HVAC, plumbing, electrical and structural engineering consultants.

  • Construction documents: While many clients consider this to be the most time-consuming stage in the process, it is also perhaps the most important. During this stage, our team finalizes planning documents and receives final client approval on all project components, including fixtures, materials, and equipment.

  • Government and Agency Review: Having their own authority and jurisdiction, government entities enlist the help of various agencies to review project guidelines
  • Bidding and negotiation: SGodley Architects maintains working relationships with numerous contractors in a variety of disciplines. We are equipped to make recommendations based on our experience. However, the client will ultimately make the final decision on who receives the bid.

  • Construction administration: During the building process, SGodley Architects acts as the client’s trusted advisor. Through field observation and collaboration with contractors, we ensure the client’s needs are being met. Upon project completion, we will provide the client with a Punch List to ensure all deliverables were fulfilled.
